Hamstring strains are one of most common sports injuries. The purpose of this literature review is to summarize studies on hamstring strain injury rate, mechanism, and risk factors in the last several decades with a focus on the prevention and rehabilitation of this injury.
The most common soft tissue injuries are strains, sprains and tear of muscles, ligaments and tendons. When a person has soft tissue damage, then he or she needs to avoid certain things during the first three days of the injury in order to ensure faster recovery. Heat should not be applied to the injury site as it can aggravate swelling.
Sport injuries refer to the kinds of injury that occurs during sports. It is possible to injure any part of the body when playing sports, the term sport injuries is used to refer to injuries of the musculoskeletal. A sports injury can be serious and can cause physical and emotional distress.
Causes of groin injuries Groin pain in athletes can be classified into athletic and non athletic causes. (Please find a table in appendix iii for causes of groin pain). Adductor muscle strains and osteitis pubis are the most common musculoskeletal causes of groin pain in athletes, which are often difficult to distinguish (Morelli and Smith, 2001).
Sprains and strains can happen suddenly or develop over the course of days, weeks or months. When a worker is exposed to causative risk factors, they are more likely to develop a sprain or strain.
Soft-tissue injuries fall into two basic categories: acute injuries and overuse injuries. Acute injuries are caused by a sudden trauma, such as a fall, twist, or blow to the body. Examples of an acute injury include sprains, strains, and contusions.
Strains are best considered to fall along a spectrum of severity which ranges from a mild muscle cramp to complete rupture, and it includes discrete entities such as partial strain injury and delayed onset muscle soreness (Verrall G M et al. 2001).
